Who should take Florida alcohol server training?
This training is designed for bartenders, restaurant servers, barbacks, cashiers, clerks, event staff, delivery personnel and other employees who sell, serve or handle alcohol in Florida. It is especially relevant when an employer participates in Florida’s Responsible Vendor program or requires responsible-service training as a condition of employment.
What is the Florida Responsible Vendor Program?
The Florida Responsible Vendor Act is a voluntary program for licensed alcohol vendors. A business that wants to qualify must provide employee training, provide additional manager training, hold employee meetings every four months, keep required records, maintain specified policies and post required notices.
Read the official requirements in Florida Statute 561.705 and the Florida DBPR Responsible Vendor brochure.

Do you need a bartender license in Florida?
Florida does not issue a statewide bartender license for individual servers. Alcohol businesses are licensed by the state, and employers may require alcohol server or Responsible Vendor training for their staff.
What is Florida Responsible Vendor training?
The Florida Responsible Vendor Act is a voluntary program for licensed alcohol vendors. To qualify, participating vendors must provide employee training on the subjects listed in Florida Statute 561.705 and meet additional policy, meeting, record-keeping and signage requirements.
Does every Florida server have to take this course?
No. Florida does not impose one universal statewide course requirement on every individual server. However, employees of a business participating in the Responsible Vendor program must receive the applicable training, and employers may set their own training requirements.
What does the alcohol training cover?
The course focuses on responsible alcohol service, Florida alcohol laws, alcohol effects, recognizing and handling underage customers, ID awareness, intoxication risk and practical service decisions.
Do I receive a certificate?
Yes. After you complete the required course activities and final assessment, you can download a certificate of completion for your records or employer.
Does the certificate expire?
Florida Statute 561.705 does not set a statewide expiration date for an individual employee training certificate. Participating vendors must still hold an employee meeting every four months, and an employer may require refresher training on its own schedule.
